Updated October 2026
Interlock paving is priced by the square metre in Dubai. The figure you see in a quote combines two things: the blocks themselves and the work to prepare the base and lay them. This guide sets out typical market prices for 2026, explains what moves the price up or down, and shows what a complete quote should include.
Typical interlock prices in Dubai
The ranges below come from prices published by Dubai paving suppliers and landscaping companies in 2026. They are a market guide, not MasterMaint prices, and your own price depends on your site.
| Item | Typical use | Typical market range (AED per sqm) |
|---|---|---|
| Standard 60 mm grey concrete blocks (material) | Paths and patios | About 35 to 50 |
| Coloured 80 mm concrete blocks (material) | Patios and driveways | About 50 to 80 |
| Tumbled or cobblestone blocks (material) | Feature areas and courtyards | About 60 to 150 |
| Porcelain interlock (material) | Premium patios | About 120 to 200 |
| Laying on a prepared base (labour) | All uses | About 20 to 45, added to the material |
| Full supply and installation by a landscaping company | Including base work, edging and finishing | About 200 to 650 |
The gap between the material-plus-laying figures and the full landscaping figure is the work that is easy to leave out of a cheap quote: excavation, a compacted sub-base, levels, drainage, edge restraint, cutting and removal of the old surface.
What changes the price per square metre?
- Block type and thickness: 60 mm blocks suit foot traffic, while 80 mm or thicker blocks are used where cars drive
- Colour and finish: coloured, tumbled and porcelain blocks cost more than plain grey
- Base depth: a driveway needs a deeper, stronger base than a garden path
- Area: very small areas cost more per square metre because setup time is spread over fewer metres
- Pattern and cutting: herringbone, curves and many edges add cutting time
- Old surface removal: breaking out existing paving or concrete adds labour and disposal
- Drainage: correcting falls or adding channel drains adds work
- Access: narrow side passages and long carries slow the job down
Why the base matters more than the block
Most interlock failures come from below the surface. A thin or poorly compacted base lets blocks sink, rock and open up at the joints. A missing fall leaves standing water after rain. Edge restraint stops the outer blocks from spreading. When you compare quotes, compare the base specification first and the block price second.
How to read a paving quote
A clear quote for interlock paving should list:
- The area in square metres and the use (walking or vehicles)
- The block type, thickness and colour
- The excavation depth and the sub-base material
- The sand bed, joint sand and compaction
- Edge restraint and any kerbs or borders
- Removal and disposal of the old surface
- Drainage work and the planned fall
- What is not included
If two quotes differ widely, the cheaper one usually leaves out base depth, edging or removal. Ask each company to price the same specification.
How long does interlock paving take?
As a market guide, laying a typical garden area takes about 1 to 2 days once the base is ready. Excavation, base preparation and any drainage work come first, and larger areas or driveways take longer.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest interlock option in Dubai?
Standard 60 mm grey concrete blocks are usually the lowest-cost option for paths and patios. They are not suitable where cars drive.
Is interlock cheaper than poured concrete?
Both are priced by area and depend on the base, so the site decides. Interlock has the advantage that a single sunken block can be lifted and relaid. Read more in our guide to the advantages of interlocking paving.
Does the price include the sub-base?
Supplier block prices do not. A full installation quote should. Always check.
