An automatic irrigation system waters a garden on a schedule, zone by zone. In the UAE heat it is what keeps a garden alive through the summer. This guide explains the main types and sets out typical 2026 market prices.
Types of irrigation system
Sprinkler (spray and rotor) systems
Pop-up heads spray water across lawns. They are placed in zones so the spray overlaps and covers the whole lawn evenly.
Drip irrigation
Drip lines and emitters deliver water slowly at the root zone of each plant. They suit beds, shrubs, trees, hedges and pots, and lose less water to evaporation and wind.
Bubblers for trees
Bubblers deliver a larger volume of water around a tree basin.
Smart controllers
App-connected controllers let you adjust schedules from your phone, and some adjust watering to the weather.
Typical irrigation costs in the UAE
These ranges are published by Dubai landscaping companies and property guides in 2026. They are a market guide, not MasterMaint prices.
| System | Typical market range (AED) |
|---|---|
| Drip system for a small bed (about 20 plants) | About 2,000 to 4,000 |
| Basic drip irrigation by area | About 25 to 55+ per sqm |
| Full villa system (lawn and beds) | About 8,000 to 15,000+ |
| Larger fully automated systems | About 15,000 to 45,000 |
| Smart, app-connected controller | About 4,500 to 12,500 extra |
What changes the price
- Garden area and number of zones
- Mix of sprinkler and drip
- Distance from the water source and the water pressure
- Trenching through hard ground or existing paving
- Controller type and sensors
- Whether the garden is new or already planted
Which system suits your garden?
Most villa gardens use both: sprinklers for the lawn and drip for beds, trees and pots, each in separate zones. If you replace the lawn with artificial grass, the lawn zone is no longer needed.
How to save water
- Group plants with similar water needs in the same zone
- Water early in the morning or in the evening
- Adjust the schedule with the seasons
- Check for leaks and blocked drippers regularly
- Use mulch on beds to reduce evaporation
Frequently asked questions
How long does installation take?
It depends on the garden size and the number of zones. In a new landscape, pipework goes in before paving and planting.
Does an irrigation system need maintenance?
Yes. Filters, heads, drippers and the controller schedule need regular checks. See Landscape & Garden Maintenance in Dubai.
